Kenya wasn’t a trip I planned, it was a trip that found me.

In the summer of 2024, I was offered an opportunity to join a group led by someone at the health system I work for to travel to Kenya to partner with an established clinic in Migori county and provide surgical care to patients in need. I had always wanted to visit Africa, but didn’t know anyone else signed up for the trip. I was nervous about committing myself to something so foreign and far away all on my own. Something about it kept nudging me though so I decided to be brave and say yes. It ended up paying off more than I could have ever imagined. Not only did we end up being the highest performing team the organization had ever hosted, but I left with new friends, a renewed sense of self + confidence and got to fulfill a life long dream of going on safari.
